We are accepting registrations for campers (ages 7-14) for our waitlist for our overnight summer camp week (August 18-23).
If there is an open bunk in your camper’s age group, we will take them right off the list and add them to the cabin.
Last year, we were able to take everyone off the waitlist, so please complete and submit the forms if you are interested in a spot for your child for summer camp week.
Tuition and Fees
The Camp Surefire Foundation subsidizes the cost of tuition for every camper. Our tuition price does not cover the expensea of sending a child to a weeklong overnight diabetes camp.
Camp Surefire has not increased our tuition in more than 12 years though our expenses and our total number of campers have continued to steadily rise. With that in mind, we have raised our tuition to help ensure we can continue to cover the expenses of all T1D campers.
Please do not let this change deter you from signing up your camper. We are 100% committed to ensuring Camp Surefire is accessible for ALL campers with T1D who wish to attend.

Financial Aid / Campership Info
Camperships are available for eligible families. To apply for a campership, please register your camper online for the session they wish to attend (e.g., spring teen camp weekend, summer camp week). You must pay the registration fee(s) in order to submit your camper registration form and be considered for a campership / financial aid.
Based on your responses to the campership questions and the submission of the requested paperwork, we will determine the amount of financial aid that will be granted to your family. We do our best to accommodate all requests. Our Financial Aid team will reach out to you with any questions and to let you know if your request has been approved.
Please note: To date, we have NEVER turned away a child with T1D due to finances.
Summer Camp Info
Camp Surefireās summer camp program is designed for children 7 years old and up. Camp Surefire is an overnight camp program. We do not have a day camp option.
Campers are divided into groups/cabins based on their age in order to participate in age-appropriate activities. Typically, we have groups of ages 7-9 year olds, 10-12 year olds, and 13-14 year olds. Our older campers (15-17 year olds) apply to be part of our Leader-in-Training (LIT) program. Note: Exact age groups vary year-to-year depending on camper enrollment and cabin space.
Being a Leader-in-Training (LIT) is a very coveted role at Camp Surefire. LITs participate in special diabetes education seminars, team building activities, and leadership exercises during the week. They also assist with programming activities for the younger campers.
To apply to be an LIT, parents/guardians must complete and submit the online registration form. Applicants (all campers ages 15-17) will be emailed directly by our LIT directors to complete an additional application via email. This needs to be completed by the teen camper – not by the parent/guardian. Note: LIT spots are competitive and are not guaranteed.
In addition to our summer program, we offer a spring retreat for teens with Type 1 diabetes. Campers must be 13 years old by the start of summer camp (August 2025) to register for the teen weekend. If you have trouble registering your soon to be 13-year old, please reach out to Ali Fox for assistance (afox@campsurefire.org).
Summer Camp Counselors
More than half of our counselors have have T1D and have previously been to Camp Surefire as campers themselves. All (100%) of our counselors volunteer and dedicate a full week of their lives to make sure their campers have a safe and positive camp experience. Camp Surefire would not be possible without them!
Due to our high retention rate, counselor positions at Camp Surefire are competitive. All potential counselors must complete a detailed application process, including relevant background checks. Counselors who have come up through the ranks (as campers/LITs) are given preference but are not guaranteed a position. We also have a strong partnership with the University of Rhode Island, where undergraduate students serve as counselors and receive credit for their immersive learning experience.
All counselors complete online training modules prior to coming to camp. They also report to camp one day early (August 17th) to receive additional on-site training from our medical staff. This training provides the counselors with an excellent learning experience and helps ensure a positive and safe experience for all campers.
Open House
Camp Surefire is fortunate to be able to rent Camp JORI’s beautiful facilities for our teen weekend and summer camp week programs. Our annual Open House is scheduled around our teen camp weekend when our staff and oldest campers are on-site and available to provide camp tours. For 2025, our Open House will be held on Sunday, June 1 from 2-4 pm. No RSVP is required. All are welcome to join us!
